Health centre gets K10m drugs
International Fund for Animal Welfare (Ifaw) has donated drugs and other medical supplies worth K10 million to Linyangwa Health Centre in Kasungu District.
Speaking on Saturday during the handover, Ifaw country director for Malawi and Zambia Patricio Ndadzela said they made the donation because they also care about people’s welfare.
He said: “We are known for promoting animal welfare, but above all, we care about the communities we work with and who reside around the areas we are working in.
“This is why we have made the donation to Linyangwa Health Centre as it is a primary facility where communities around Kasungu National Park, including employees of Ifaw and Department of National Parks and Wildlife get treatment before being referred to Kasungu District Hospital.”
Kasungu district director of health and social services Emmanuel Golombe thanked Ifaw, saying the donation will ease government’s pressure to supply drugs to the facility.
“As Kasungu District, we experience a 70-percent drug shortfall during every order we make to government, which affects our health facilities,” he said.
Golombe pledged that they will take care of the drugs to serve its intended purpose.
On his part, Department of National Parks and Wildlife director Brighton Kumchedwa also commended the organisation for its continued support to the department.
Ifaw is also constructing a 22-kilometre electric wire fence around the eastern side of Kasungu National Park in Traditional Authority Chulu where stray elephants terrorise communities.
